Team: Emerson-Hubbard

Mascot: Pirates

Colors: Purple and Gold

Class: D-2

Head Coach: Traci Millard (1st season)

2017 record: 5-23

Returning Starters: N/A

Overview:

The Emerson-Hubbard Pirates are under new and old leadership as former Head Coach Traci Millard takes over the reigns of the program once again. Millard was the Head Coach for Emerson-Hubbard from 2003-2009.

The Pirates have 5 returners from last season in seniors Taylor Daum (5’9, MH) and Stephanie Ferrusca (5’1, SR S/DS), as well as juniors Madison Gunderson (5’2, S), Addison Mackling (5’4, OH/DS/S), and Isabella Parker-Diaz (5’7, S/RS), who are expected to be the main starters, according to Millard.

Senior Cashlyn Krahmer is expected to play a lot also. Millard says Freshman Brynn Shock will be a big contributor as well.

Millard says the Pirates are looking forward to the season. “We are all very excited for the 2018 volleyball season. We have five girls returning from last year and all of them have welcomed the new five with excitement. We are a small and somewhat inexperienced team when it comes to varsity competition, but we are eager to compete and grow as a team.”

Millard says was weightroom and open gym participation was good over the summer. The team went to the Wayne State and Wayne High Team Camps. She says the camps helped prepare the team for what they are going to see this season.

Season Outlook:

The Emerson-Hubbard Volleyball looks to improve and make progress as the season goes along.

The Pirates get their season started on Tuesday night at Omaha Nation.

Millard feels Omaha Nation will be a pretty even matchup, and is glad the Pirates are playing this match first this year instead of the usual triangular with Ponca and Homer, which will be held on Thursday.

The Pirates are in Sub-District D2-4 with Wynot, Winside, Santee, and Bloomfield.

Millard says team goals include working together. “Right now our team goals are to make sure that we continue to play as a team. Especially having 5 returning and 5 new we want to make sure that we continue to welcome the 5 new with open arms, and make sure that they feel like a part of the team.”

Millard adds the team is practicing mainly on the rotation, and making sure they’re getting that down, and adds the team’s overall goal is to walk away with as many wins as possible.
