Pender-GACC and Wisner-Pilger advanced to the C2-5 Sub-District Final at Pender Tuesday night as both teams swept their way through their first sub-district match Monday night.

The Bluejays dispatched of Oakland-Craig in three, taking set one 25-17, and sets two and three 25-18.

Sophia Hass led GACC (12-15) with 13 kills while Bailey Helzer and Ashten Rennerfeldt paced the Knights with 7 kills apiece.

GACC Head Coach Kate Hagemann on the win. “Yeah I was really happy just kind of with our consistency tonight. We’ve talked kind of all week going into this game how when you go to postseason you just can’t be too high or too low. And teams are going to go on runs, and we’re going to go on runs, but you just can’t overreact to anything that happens. And I thought we did a really good job of that. Just being steady every set. Oakland went on their runs. They’re the type of team, she does a great job, you just know they’re never going to give up. So even when you get a four-point lead, a six-point lead, you’re still nervous on the bench because you know they’re going to come and make some scrappy plays and some hustle plays.”

Hagemann says her team’s confidence is peaking at the right time.

In the second match of the night, the Gators won set one 25-14, set two 25-4, and set three 25-19 over BRLD.

Jordan Wegner led Wisner-Pilger (22-10) with 15 kills while Rachel Otten chipped in 7.  Reagan Scholting had 12 digs while Emily Hatterman notched 28 set assists.

Wisner-Pilger Head Coach Jean Groth says her squad dominated the first two sets. “Yes I thought the team played exceptionally well. They did a good job earning points. Our defense was great also.”

The Bluejays and Gators will meet at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night for the right to go to Sub-State.

Groth says her team will have their hands full. “I feel they’re playing very smooth right now. They’re identifying their hitters that can terminate right now. And they’ve got their defenders in the right place. And so it’ll be tough.”

The Knights and Wolverines end their seasons at 13-19 and 12-18, respectively.
