SHICKLEY – The Bruning-Davenport-Schickley volleyball team flexed their muscle Thursday night, picking up two quality wins in their own triangular. Exeter-Milligan went 1-1 and Hampton fell in both contests.
In the first game of the night, BDS survived numerous comeback attempts by Hampton, but eventually the Eagles swept the Hawks, 25-17 and 25-16. BDS’s Jadyn Kleinschmidt led both teams with eight kills and two blocks. Regan Alfs contributed four kills and one ace. The Eagles finished with six ace serves as a team. For Hampton, Jacie Klassen led the team with six kills, five coming in the second set. It was the first loss of the season for Hampton.
Having to quickly rebound from the loss, Hampton was tasked with trying to defeat the defending Class D2 state champion, Exeter-Milligan Timberwolves. The first set wasn’t much of a contest for Exeter-Milligan, but Hampton pushed the second set to the limit, however the Hawks still came up a bit short. The Timberwolves won in two sets, 25-11 and 25-23. Katherine White was phenomenal all night long, finishing with nine kills in the victory for Exeter-Milligan. In a well balanced attack, Kate Jansky and Cammie Harrison each had four kills. Once again, Klassen led Hampton with four kills and one ace.
In the final game of the night, it became an instant classic. BDS and Exeter-Milligan traded blows in both sets, but it was the Eagles who came away victorious, 25-20 and 25-19. Each set saw at least 11 lead changes. In another balanced attack by BDS, Alfs and Macy Kamler each had seven kills. Kleinschmidt contributed six kills. For the Timberwolves, White led all players with 13 kills.
With the two wins, BDS moves to 5-0 and has yet to lose a single set. Exeter-Milligan falls to 2-1 and Hampton drops their record to 2-2.
