York Mayor recall petition collects enough signatures for special election

YORK, Neb. – A recall vote has been forced for York Mayor Orval Stahr.

According to York County Clerk, Kelly Turner, a total of 1326 signatures were collected, but 112 were rejected. Bringing the total of verified signatures to 1,214, slightly more than the 1,149 needed to force a special recall election. Turner said it is now up to the York City Council to determine a date for the election. Because of the General Election blackout period, Turner predicts the special election will fall sometime in February.

York City Council member Diane Wolfe filed the initial recall petition, saying Stahr broke the trust of the city department heads and is “neglectful of York’s best interests.” Stahr said the accusations were false.
