Volunteer fundraising for the Scottsbluff YMCA’s community support campaign is running ahead of last year’s effort.
With donations turned in Thursday at the campaign’s ‘Victory Luncheon’, more than $118,000 has been gathered toward the goal of $190,000 to support scholarships for those in need.
Campaign Chair Zac Karpf tells KNEB News that the scholarship figure awarded so far this year has eclipsed the $100,000 mark. “That’s not just in program participation or memberships at the YMCA,” says Karpf, “but also in our summer camps and other activities that take place throughout the year, many sporting kinds of activities as well.”
Monies donated during the campaign are exclusively used for scholarships as opposed to YMCA expenses or the organization’s capital budget.
Karpf says the money raise so far is ahead of last year and he’s very optimistic the campaign will reach this year’s goal, as there is still a lot giving and community generosity that will take place before the end of the year.
