WNCC’S Very Valley Christmas set for Saturday evening

WNCC’S Very Valley Christmas set for Saturday evening
Western Nebraska Community College’s ‘A Very Valley Christmas’ returns to the area to showcase a variety of holiday tunes.
For the third straight year, all three WNCC performing arts programs will be collaborating on the event, which is free and open the public.
WNCC’s Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, and Theatre Arts programs, along with the Scottsbluff High School choral program, will perform a series of festive music beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Scottsbluff High School Auditorium.

“Everybody always has a ton of fun with this event,” said Patrick Newell, WNCC choral activities director. “Students have been looking forward to singing Christmas music since August, and we’ve typically drawn good crowds. ‘A Very Valley Christmas’ is a great kick-start into the holiday season.”

This year, patrons will be treated to holiday favorites such as “Winter Wonderland,” “White Christmas,” “Once Upon a December,” from the animated film “Anastasia,” and “Holiday Road” performed by instrumental groups Fire in the Pan Swingers and Western Nebraska Winds, and the vocal music groups Collegiate Chorale and Varsity Vocalise. As always, anyone can join the performers on stage to sing the “Hallelujah Chorus.”

Additionally, members of the Theatre Arts program will perform a 10-minute comedy “‘Twas the Fight Before Christmas,” directed by WNCC student Stephanie Wieand. The play features a family on Christmas Eve who all have different ideas how the evening should be spent.

“We’re very fortunate all three WNCC programs and the Scottsbluff High School students are willing and able to come together for this annual show,” Newell said. “We’ll be showcasing some great talent, and hopefully, giving the community a joyful evening.”
