Following Friday night’s special meeting and public hearing, the Wisner City Council voted to submit a bid to the Wisner School Board to acquire the former elementary school building.
A number of people voiced their opposition to the acquisition efforts but following the meeting, Mayor Dave Brown told KTIC a lot of other people have voiced support for the project but didn’t want to speak at a public hearing.
The mayor says several business people would like the city to free up some of the downtown buildings by having the senior citizens center and city library move into the vacant school building.
The library board is against the idea and there’s been resistance from the citizen’s center to move as well.
Mayor Brown says they’ve been in discussions with others to make use of the building that he doesn’t yet want to name.
The Wisner School Board will consider the bid at its February 5th meeting.
