The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until 6 pm Sunday. Cuming, Colfax and Thurston counties could see 6 to 8 inches of snow and winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour. Rain will change to snow by early afternoon with periods of heavy snow into this evening. Occasional light snow will continue into Sunday. Travel will be difficult.
Portions of central, north central and west central Nebraska will get hit even harder with 9 to 4 inches of snow and gusty winds. Towns that could see the highest snowfall totals include Valentine, Ainsworth, O’Neill and Thedford.
Closer to the South Dakota border, accumulations of 6 to 11 inches are expected. Northwest Iowa is also expected to see a fair amount of snow, from about 3 to 4 inches in the Onawa area to up to 8 inches in the far northwest corner of the state.
