The third time was the charm for the West Point Trails and Pathways Committee. After two previous routes were rejected by the West Point City Council, council members Tuesday night approved a revised route.
Committee member Leanne Ritter told council members at the outset that this was their final proposal.
“There are a few people who don’t want it to be in Wilderness Park at all. And as a committee, we feel that it is an important part,” said Ritter. “We have minimized the amount we are going into Wilderness Park. If the proposal as we have it now can’t be approved as a complete proposal, including this portion of Wilderness Park, we feel this is going away from what we as a committee want to propose.”
The current proposal includes less than a mile of the trail in Wilderness Park.
City Administrator Tom Goulette says the next step is the engineering and design of the route as well as the committee’s fund-raising to pay for the trail.
