The West Point Chamber of Commerce plans to have its “Ag Appreciation Dinner” as scheduled Tuesday, March 19th at the Nielsen Center. Doors open at 6pm.
In an email to chamber members, executive director Tina Biteghe Bi Ndong said:
Thank you to everyone who responded to my email this morning. From those responses, we have decided to move ahead with Ag Appreciation. One of the comments that we received from a sponsor, and someone who was personally affected by the flooding, was: “….and I fear with the mess the flood has caused, the farmers will be in the field as soon as it dries to clean up debris. I think if we’re going to have any sort of turn-out, we’re better off having it while it’s still too muddy for farm clean-up.”
As we move forward, we will also open it up to area volunteers and first responders. I will share that message on the radio and on Facebook and let them know that there will be tickets available for them at the door.
I have been in contact with RP Smith and we have mapped out a route for him to get here (which takes into account the new closure on highway 275 between Beemer and Wisner).
If we have a smaller crowd, we will recruit Ag Council members to deliver leftover food on Wednesday to volunteers and area ag producers that were affected by the flood.
