Updated Flood Warnings From NWS

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is advising against travel in the county unless it’s an emergency due to flooding.   Here are the latest flood warnings from the National Weather Service:

 

1019 AM CDT TUE JUN 26 2018

The National Weather Service in Omaha has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
  Southeastern Madison County in northeastern Nebraska...
  Western Burt County in east central Nebraska...
  Wayne County in northeastern Nebraska...
  Cuming County in northeastern Nebraska...
  Colfax County in northeastern Nebraska...
  Platte County in northeastern Nebraska...
  Northwestern Washington County in east central Nebraska...
  Dodge County in east central Nebraska...
  Thurston County in northeastern Nebraska...
  Northern Butler County in east central Nebraska...
  Northwestern Saunders County in east central Nebraska...
  Stanton County in northeastern Nebraska...

* Until 715 PM CDT Tuesday.

* At 1015 AM CDT, emergency management reported flooding continues
  across the affected area with numerous road closures in place.
  Please check with the Nebraska Department of Transportation for
  the latest information and updates on road closures.

The National Weather Service in Omaha has issued a
* Flood Warning for
The Wahoo Creek At Wahoo.
* until further notice…or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 10:15 PM Monday the stage was 21.3 feet…or 0.3 feet above
flood stage.
* Flood stage is 21.0 feet.
* Forecast…the creek should drop back below flood stage by this
afternoon.
* Impact…at 21.0 feet…At this level County Road J downstream of
Wahoo begins to flood.

The Missouri River At Nebraska City.
* At 4:00 AM Tuesday the stage was 18.4 feet…or 0.4 feet above
flood stage.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast…The river should continue rising to near 24.2 feet by
Thursday morning.
* Impact…at 23.0 feet…At Nebraska City a grain elevator, a
fertilizer bulk storage and shipping facility and portions of the
Waste Water Treatment Plant are impacted by floodwaters.

The Flood Warning continues for
The Missouri River At Brownville.
* At 4:15 AM Tuesday the stage was 34.0 feet…or 1.0 feet above
flood stage.
* Flood stage is 33.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast…The river will continue rising to near 41.2 feet by
Thursday evening.
* Impact…at 39.5 feet…The access road to the power plant begins
flooding.

* At 4:30 AM Tuesday the stage was 17.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast…The river will continue rising to near 24.4 feet by
Friday morning.

* Near record flooding is forecast.
* Forecast…Continue to rise to near 20.4 feet by this evening.
The river will fall below flood stage by late tomorrow morning.

The Flood Warning continues for
The Pebble Creek At Scribner.
* At 3:45 AM Tuesday the stage was 23.0 feet…or 5.0 feet above
flood stage.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Forecast…it appears that the creek crested around 23.3 feet at
around 1 AM to 2 AM. It was falling slowly as of 3:45 AM.
* Impact…at 23.0 feet…Widespread flooding affects much of the
agricultural community in the vicnity of the creek.

The Maple Creek Near Nickerson.
* At 4:31 AM Tuesday the stage was 13.5 feet…or 2.0 feet above
flood stage. It appears that the creek crested around 13.7 feet
earlier this morning.
* Flood stage is 11.5 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Impact…at 14.0 feet…Water begins to impact the bridge at Highway
275/77 at Maple Creek.

* At 3:15 AM Tuesday the stage was 19.1 feet…or 1.1 feet above
flood stage.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and Record flooding is forecast.
* Forecast…The creek is expected to reach near 21.4 feet by this
evening. The creek should then fall below flood stage late
Wednesday morning.
* Impact…at 21.0 feet…Overflows threaten the railroad tracks on
the west outskirts of Uehling. West Uehling would flood if the
railroad tracks were overtopped.

rise to around 21.5 feet this morning. Then the creek should
start to fall by this afternoon.

The Shell Creek Near Columbus.
* At 3:30 AM Tuesday the stage was 21.1 feet…or 1.1 feet above
flood stage.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast…The creek should continue rising to near 21.6 feet
this morning, then fall below flood stage after midnight
tonight.
* Impact…at 22.0 feet…Extensive flooding takes place affecting
county roads and much farmland. Depending on the amount of runoff
below the gage, the Lower Shell Creek basin may threaten Schuyler
and Rogers.

The Big Blue River Near Surprise.
* At 3:45 AM Tuesday the stage was 7.9 feet…or 0.9 feet above
flood stage.
* Flood stage is 7.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast…The river appeared to be near a crest as of 3:45 AM
and should start to fall back to below flood stage this
afternoon.
* Impact…at 7.0 feet…County road 24 1/2 will begin to flood
downstream of Surprise. In addition, the city park near the gage
site begins to flood.
