Charges have been dismissed against a 19-year-old Gering man who was arrested earlier this month after being accused of breaking into a Scottsbluff storage unit.
During Tuesday’s preliminary hearing, Jonathan Van Galder’s Class 2A felony was dismissed after Judge James Worden found their was insufficient evidence to bound the case over to District Court.
Court documents said the co-owners of the storage unit believed the man broke part of a heavy back door and removed some screws in the door to gain access.
Van Galder maintained the only thing he did was remove his vehicle so he could sell it. He indicated he unscrewed the door a while ago so he could get in to the storage unit because the lease holder has been unresponsive about giving him a key. Van Galder denied taking anything other than his vehicle.
