The legislature’s new Appropriations Committee Chair may be from western Nebraska.
State Senator John Stinner of Gering confirmed to KNEB News Thursday he has submitted a letter to the other members of the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee indicating his desire to be chairman of the committee.
Stinner has no opposition yet, and he admits he may not have any given the fact the state has budget issues over the next biennium.
Stinner says since he is retired he believes he has the time to do the job correctly, and he says his background in banking and as a retired CPA gives him the skills necessary to do the job.
Stinner talked about the upcoming session at a local pre-legislative breakfast Thursday, indicating any tax reform must be done in coordination with balancing the budget. Stinner says he feels much more comfortable as a senator as he moves into the final two years of his four year term.
