The Stanton County Sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate a Saturday night traffic accident that claimed the life of a 22-year- old Stanton native.
Hunter Hetzler was a passenger in an eastbound car driven by Tucker Lanz, 23, of rural Stanton when the eastbound BMW left the Stanton Golf Course Road about six mile s east of Stanton and crossed into the north ditch striking a power pole and rolling onto its top.
Both occupants were not wearing seat belts and Hetzler was ejected and pinned under the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene.
Lanz was also unrestrained and ejected and suffered critical injuries. He was transported to FRHS and later taken to an Omaha hospital for further treatment.
Alcohol and speed are believed to have been contributing factors and Lanz was cited on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and motor vehicle homicide. A post mortem has been ordered on Hetzler and will be performed at the Douglas County hospital in Omaha.
Due to the collision that occurred at about 9:15 p.m., power was knocked out to a large area of southeastern Stanton County into the early morning hours until restored by Stanton County Public Power.
Pilger and Stanton Fire and Rescue along with Stanton County Emergency Management also responded to the scene.
