On Tuesday evening just before 9:00 p.m. the Stanton County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call about a male acting erratic in a vehicle near Woodland Park. He was then observed driving erratically before an attempt was made by the Sheriff’s office to stop the vehicle near 845th Road and 560th Avenue.
The vehicle then fled north on Hwy 35 and increased its speed and after it passed Hoskins on Hwy 35 it made a U-Turn and then proceeded off Hwy 35 through Hoskins and then continued north on county roads.
The vehicle left the roadway into a cornfield and then back onto county roads before it entered a second field and contact was lost. It was believed the vehicle was within that farm section and a perimeter was set up by the Sheriff’s offices from Stanton, Wayne and Pierce County and the Nebraska State Patrol.
Ultimately an air search and use of K-9 units was undertaken and during that time the suspect was located north of that location on foot near Randolph and taken to FRHS in Norfolk by ambulance for medical treatment. After the suspect was medically cleared he was taken into custody by the Stanton Sheriff’s office on charges of suspicion of driving while under the influence (drugs), willful reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, and unlawful acts ( being under influence of controlled substance) and jailed pending the posting of bond.
The pursuit lasted about 20 minutes and the suspect vehicle was later recovered and impounded. Additional charges are possible along with charges in Wayne County.
