Recently Courtney Phillips, the Director of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, announced a statewide tour of meetings to seek public comments on the Medicaid long-term care program. A DHHS news release says the goal of a new plan is to streamline the eligibility process and promote independent living in the least restrictive setting possible. The meetings are planned mostly in northeast Nebraska and along the Interstate 80 corridor in the state. But, Sen. Al Davis is asking Phillips to add meetings in his Legislative District 43 which covers much of north-central and northwest Nebraska.

Davis says District 43 is home to many of Nebraska’s oldest residents and also has high levels of poverty and a significant number of residents without insurance. He adds that DHHS should add additional sites which aren’t hours away for residents so as to allow them to share their ideas and to explain the unique hardships of rural living. With that, he asked Phillips, in a letter, to add additional meeting sites on the east and west ends of District 43.
