The Scottsbluff Police Department is warning the public, after a new scam is hitting the area.

Sgt. Lance Kite says one local victim was contacted by someone posing as a member of the U.S. Army- stating that they needed funds to ship their belongings back home to America.

He says the victim sent $3,000 worth of gift cards to the scammer,  and says unfortunately, those funds are already long gone.

Sgt. Kite says any time someone online reaches out to you to send them funds- whether cash or gift cards- 99.9 percent of the time it’s a scam… and he encourages residents to reach out to the Police Department if they think they’re being targeted in a scam.
