The Scottsbluff city council Monday night will consider authorizing a letter to Burlington Northern Railroad regarding the condition of rail crossings at 5th Avenue, Broadway, and Avenue B.
The proposed letter by City Manager Nathan Johnson says the city has received a number of complaints by motorists concerning the rough conditions of the crossings, which the railroad is required to maintain for safe and convenient public travel under state statutes and city ordinances.
Johnson says the condition of the crossings are deteriorating to the point where citizens are concerned about damage to their tires, to other parts of their vehicles and their overall safety. Johnson says the city wants to open a dialogue and discuss a priority in resolving the issues before finding it necessary to adopt a resolution demanding the crossings be maintained.
The council will also consider authorizing a the Mayor to sign a letter outlining the size and source of the local match for a CDBG pre-development grant application for southeast Scottsbluff improvements.
