WEST POINT, NE – Due to ongoing flooding concerns in and around Cuming County, a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for the new Donald E. Nielsen Career and Technical Education Center in West Point has been postponed.

The ceremony, originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, at 10 a.m., will now be held on Thursday, April 11, at 10 a.m. The center is located directly north of the Nielsen Community Center, 200 Anna Stalp Ave.

The City of West Point has worked with Northeast Community College, Wayne State College and the Pathways to Tomorrow (P2T) high school consortium to offer classes in the facility. Programming in the new center will focus on areas that include building construction, manufacturing and welding. Computer and health sciences classes will be held in the Shirley and Jake Weber wing of the Nielsen Community Center.

In addition, the Northeast Community College Board of Governors monthly meeting, which was to be held in the Nielsen Community Center on March 19, has now been scheduled to be conducted on the Northeast campus in Norfolk. The regular meeting will begin at 3 p.m.
