Kelly Sides has won the Republican primary for Scotts Bluff County Clerk and a tiebreaker will be needed to determine who will be the second candidate on the general election ballot for Mitchell mayor.
Following a recount Tuesday Sides won the County Clerk primary, beating Pamela Schleve-Cassels, her closest candidate in the four person race, by 987 to 984. Sides will now face the Libertarian candidate Kurt Zadina in the general election.
Meanwhile Incumbent Mitchell Mayor Brian Taylor and Paul Murrell are still tied for second in a Mayor’s race where the top two contestants advance to the general election. Both candidates had 92 votes after the recount.
Both candidates needed to be notified by certified letter according to state statute of the tiebreaker procedure, which has now been scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the County Commissioners room. A flip of a coin will determine the winner, with a number draw prior to that determining who calls the flip.
Dave Curtis won the primary and is already on the general election ballot.
