Popular family practitioner Dr. Pete Johnson dies

One of the area’s most popular family practitioners has died. Dr. Milton “Pete”Johnson passed away Monday at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s hospital in Denver following a diagnosis 18 months ago of acute leukemia. He was 71 years old.

Johnson, a native of Scottsbluff, joined his brother Ken and other doctors practicing at Bluffs Medical Clinic in 1976 after serving in the Air Force for a couple years. Johnson had a medical practice for 40 years and was honored with the Physician of the Year award by the Nebraska Medical Association in 2003. Johnson was also Director of Panhandle Community Services and Associate Director of UNMC’s Family Practice Residency Program.

Johnson is survived by his wife Jann, son Matt and Daughter Kristin and two grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to First United Methodist Church, Festival of Hope or Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska.
