Freezing drizzle made the roadways extremely hazardous across west-central Nebraska Thursday causing numerous traffic accidents. One death was reported in an accident on Interstate 80 at mile marker 222 or just west of the Cozad interchange. The Nebraska State Patrol reports that it occurred at 1:56pm as an eastbound vehicle lost control on the black ice, entered the median and rolled. An unbelted rear passenger was and ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. He was identified as 20-year-old Joshua Mulder of Oakland, NE. The driver and two other occupants of the vehicle had restraints.
Traffic was temporarily diverted from the Interstate while the scene was processed. Assisting agencies include Cozad Fire and Rescue, Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska Department of Roads.
