The city of Gering is suggesting changes to parking around the new Oregon Trail Park Stadium to assist with traffic flow when the Western Nebraska Pioneers begin playing their home games in two weeks.
City Planner Annie Folck says the city is recommending Overland Trails Road east of the stadium be reduced to northbound traffic and diagonal parking be established on both sides of the street and in the grassy areas near Kimball Avenue.
Folck says an east entrance to the stadium along with a ticket counter will allow people another easy access to the baseball park without having to walk clear around the stadium.
Folck says the city is also recommending that 13th Street in front of the new stadium and the municipal swimming pool be a one way street southbound to accommodate ADA parking and also allow easier traffic flow. Folck says the one way suggestion on 13th Street will be done on a trial period over the summer, and then be reviewed by the council and staff.
Folck says a 15 mile per hour speed limit when patrons are present will be established.
Folck says the recommendations will be considered as a new ordinance during a special council meeting Monday.
