(Update) One death in single semi accident near Cozad, driver identified

(Update) One death in single semi accident near Cozad, driver identified
RRN/ 4 miles west of Cozad on Interstate 80 looking east toward the dry ravine where the semi crashed 11-16-16

A semi accident occurred shortly before 6:00 am Wednesday  about 4 miles west of the Cozad Interstate 80 interchange. The semi appeared to drift off the roadway, over a guardrail and came to rest in an empty canal ditch. One fatality has been confirmed.  The Nebraska State Patrol identified the  deceased driver  as  39 year old Walter Allen Reed Jr. of Kearney.

Cozad Volunteer Fire Department responded to use the Jaws of Life to remove the driver from the semi. Also responding were the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from the Department of Roads. Two wreckers from Randy’s Towing of Lexington were dispatched to remove portions of the semi from the ravine.
