WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a three credit Nurse Aide class in West Point beginning later this month.
The class (NURA 1110/18S & CRN #24105) will be held Mondays and Thursdays, January 15-March 15, from 5-9 p.m. An additional class will be held on Saturday, February 10, from 12-4 p.m. Class meets at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, 430 N. Monitor Street, in West Point, although the first class will meet at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue. Mary Dickson is the instructor.
Students will learn the basic skills needed to provide safe, effective, and caring services to the elderly or chronically ill patient of any age, in a long-term care facility. Upon completion of this course, the student is eligible to take the state written and practical skills exam. After successfully passing this examination and completing the application procedure, the student’s name will be place on the basic nurse aide registry at the Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure Credential Division.
Cost of the class is $340.50 for Nebraska resident. The textbooks are available for purchase for $77.58 at the Northeast Community College extended Campus office, West Point.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City will offer a 12 weekend Professional Truck Driving class that will begin later this month.
The course (TRDR 5100/17F & CRN #60149/60150) will be held Tuesdays-Fridays, January 16-March 2, in Room 205 at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 1001 College Way. The class will meet 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The professional truck driving field ranks among the top professions in the number of job openings each year. Reports estimate that approximately 225,000 new drivers will be needed in the next few years. Starting salaries for truck drivers in Nebraska are $35,000-$50,000 a year.
In this course, students will learn to operate articulated vehicles in a training environment that includes driving on city streets, two-lane, and interstate highways.
Students must be at least 18-years of age, pass a Department of Transportation physical examination, and have a valid driver’s license and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) learner’s permit. A copy of driving record for the past three years is also required. According to federal regulation, drivers must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with the public and government officials. The COMPASS/ESL test will be provided.
Cost for the course, with Ryan Cook the instructor, is $1,995. Textbook for the class, which is available at the South Sioux City extended campus bookstore, is $96.19.
