Northeast Community College will offer a variety of classes at its West Point, Norfolk, and Hartington Campuses next month. Information on them can be found below by date.

 

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer an additional non-credit class to equip 14-17-year-olds with the basic skills to operate a motor vehicle.

The Provisional Operator’s Permit (P.O.P.) Driver’s Education Course (TRAN 5110/18S & CRN # 70006/70007) will be held February 3-18. Class will be held Saturdays, 8-12 p.m., and Sundays, 1-5 p.m. The class meets in Room 116 of the Utility Line Building, east of the Norfolk campus. Class will not meet on Saturday, February 17.

The class includes 20 hours of classroom lecture. The required six hours of driving lab will be arranged between the instructor and the student.

Students are asked to bring their learner’s or school driving permit to the first class. A book will be provided. Students must sign up for both the lecture class and the driving sessions.

Cost of the class, with Dan Loofe the instructor, is $295.

HARTINGTON – The Hartington regional office of Northeast Community College will offer a Valentine’s Day-themed baking class for kids in Wausa next month.

Holiday Baking – Valentine’s Day (HOEC 5100/18S & CRN #70108) will be held Monday, February 5, from 4-6 p.m. at Lincoln Township Library, 603 E. Norris St, in Wausa.

In this course, kids will learn how to make special Valentine’s Day treats. They will learn the basics of measuring and the steps to make a special treat. The course is suitable for those in grades third through eighth.

Cost of the class, with Jamie Kimmons the instructor, is $20.

Microsoft Excel class to be held at Northeast Community College in Norfolk

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a beginning Microsoft Excel class in February.

Microsoft Excel 2016 – Level I (INFO 5115/18S & CRN #70131) will be held Tuesday and Thursday, February 6 and 8, from 6-9 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center (LLC). Stacy Anderson is the instructor.

In this course, participants will explore the essentials of Microsoft Excel 2016 to analyze, manage and share data of all kinds. They will learn to construct and modify worksheets, incorporate formulas and functions, navigate worksheets and workbooks with ease and use simple functions and formatting techniques to evaluate and organize data effectively.

Cost is $60.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a course next month for Google Forms users.

Google Forms (INFO 5185/18S & CRN#70178), will meet Tuesday, February 6, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 212, at 202 Anna Stalp Avenue in West Point.

Google Forms allows anyone to create an online form quickly and easily. Participants will learn everything they need to know to collect data from Google Forms, how to add questions, insert images and videos and invite others to collaborate on the form. How to send forms to recipients, view and analyze response data and close out the form to prevent future responses will also be covered.

Cost for each class is $30. Patty Schinstock is the instructor.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer additional crafting classes during the month of February.

Jewelry Making (HOEC 5135/18S & CRN #70138) will be offered Tuesday, February 6, from 7-9 p.m. at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue, Room 201.

Participants will learn how to create a custom fit bracelet and pair of earrings. The skills taught in this class will enable participants to assemble their own custom jewelry. All supplies are included in the cost of the class.

Cost of the class, with Judy Mutzenberger the instructor, is $20.

Valentine’s Heart Door Dangle (HOEC 5135/18F & CRN #70139) will meet Wednesday, February 7, from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue, Room 201.

In this class, taught by Michelle Harringer, participants will create an adorable Valentine’s Day door hanging.

Supplies are included in the cost of the class, which is $30.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a course in basic IV therapy next month.

Basic IV Therapy (NURA 5135/18S & CRN #70245) will be held Wednesday, February 7, from 8 a.m. to 5:40 p.m. in Room 212 of the West Point extended campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue. Karen Weidner is the instructor, which is taught via distance learning.

This 8.5-hour course meets the didactic portion of the new requirements for LPNs related to IV therapy. Upon conclusion of the course, participants will identify legal issues and scope of practice changes related to IV therapy and explore best practiced related to IV therapy (peripheral and central line care). Certificates will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of the class is $100.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a series of basic computer classes in February.

Basic Computer I (INFO 5105/18S & CRN #70132) will be held Wednesday, February 7, from 1-4 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center (LLC) on the Norfolk campus.

This class is for the person who has very limited computer knowledge or none at all. The student will be taught beginning computer skills, including powering the computer on and off, using a mouse and keyboard, utilizing the desktop, and launching programs.

Basic Computer II (INFO 5305/18S & CRN #70133) will be held Wednesday, February 14, at the same time and location.

This class will review and build upon skills learned in Basic Computer I. Topics covered will include learning to use a word processor, working with tool and task bars, performing basic formatting functions, saving and printing documents.

Basic Computer III (INFO 5505/18S & CRN #70134) will be held Wednesday, February 21, at the same time and location.

This class is for the person who has very limited computer knowledge. Students will continue to build upon and improve their skills with in-depth work with word processing, keyboard shortcuts and the internet.

All classes will be taught by Stacy Anderson at a very relaxed pace with significant hands-on practice. Cost of each class is $30.

HARTINGTON -Northeast Community College will offer two additional technology classes in Hartington next month.

Smartphone Applications (INFO 5200/18S & CRN #70111) will meet Wednesday, February 7, from 6-9 p.m. at US Cellular in Hartington, which is located inside Pearson Motor Company at 104 Industrial Park Street.

This course will cover the basic usage and applications of using an Android smartphone and iPhone. This class is recommended for anyone who is struggling to use their smart phone and all of its applications.

Cost of the class, with Angela Jenkins the instructor, is $30.

All Things Google (INFO 5215/18S & CRN #70112) will be held Wednesday, February 7, from 6-9 p.m. at Hartington-Newcastle Public Schools, 501 S. Broadway Avenue, in Hartington.

Many think of Google as a search engine, but this course will explore the many Google Apps available to users. Students will explore how Google can enhance and organize their lives. Topics will include Google Docs, Earth, Images, Translate, Maps, Calendar and others.

Cost of the class, with Cody Stappert the instructor, is $30.
