Northeast Community College will offer more classes at its Norfolk and South Sioux City Campuses later this month. Information can be found below:

 

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a Basic Life Support (BLS) course for healthcare providers in April.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Course (HLTH 5300/18S & CRN #70232) will be held Saturday, April 21, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in Room 105 of the Arlo Worth Building on the Norfolk campus.

This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of this class, with Trever O’Brien the instructor, is $60. The textbook for the course is available in the Hawks Shop in the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer another Heart Code – BLS for Healthcare Provider Online & Skills Session course, beginning soon.

The first portion of this course (HLTH 5300/18S & CRN #70226) is web-based and is available on-line
24 hours a day. The skills session meets Saturday, April 21, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101, on the Norfolk campus.

The Basic Life Support course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking. This course is designed for the first time or renewal certification and has two parts for completion.

Part 1 provides a flexible alternative to classroom training. Part 2 is a skills session where hands on practice and competency testing are completed with a Certified AHA Instructor. When online Part 1 is completed, students will register for the Skills Sessions. Participants are to bring their online completion certificate (Part 1 completed within the last 60 days) to the Skills Session for which they have registered.

Online key codes for Part 1 are available at the Hawks Shop in the Student Center on the Norfolk campus, (402) 844-7140. NOTE: Participants need to bring their AHA Part 1 Health Care Provider Online Course Completion Certificate to be admitted to the Skills Session. No textbook is required for this class.

Cost of the class, with Brock Soderberg the instructor, is $40.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer additional Heart Code – Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid On-line Skills Sessions.

Three testing sessions – Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid (HLTH 5130/18S & CRN #70215); Heartsaver CPR/AED – Adult, Infant and Child (HLTH 5150/18S & CRN #70220); Heartsaver First Aid (HLTH 5105/18S & CRN #70210) will be held Saturday, April 21, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101, on the Norfolk campus.

The Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid course CPR/AED (testing sessions will cover any of the combinations as listed above) – teaching rescuers to recognize and treat cardiac arrest and choking for adults, children and infant victims, use an AED and First Aid – teaching management of certain environmental reactions; allergic reactions, cuts, wounds, bites, and various situations requiring treatments.

The on-line course is designed for the first time or renewal certification. This course is accessible 24 hours a day and provides a flexible alternative to classroom training for the course itself. After completing this course, students are eligible to register for the testing session. Online key codes for Part 1 (online course) are available at the Hawks Shop in the Norfolk campus Student Center, (402)-844-7140. Students will need to bring their AHA Online Course Completion Certificate (within 60 days) to be admitted to the Skills Testing Session. No textbook is required for this class.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a pediatric life support and first aid class later this month.

Pediatric Basic Life Support and First Aid (HLTH 1730/18S & CRN #23972) will meet Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in Room 103 of the Arlo Wirth Building on the Norfolk campus.

The course is designed to prepare students to perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on infants and children, relieve a foreign body airway obstruction from infants and children as well as basic first aid. The training meets the requirement of the American Heart Association for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.

Cost of the class, with Rich Lutz the instructor, is $56.75.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a CPR Instructor Course beginning soon.

The course (HLTH 1720/18S & CRN #24214) will meet Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, April 23-27, from 6-10 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101, on the Northeast campus.

CPR instructor training for those currently qualified in basic life support. This course includes background materials, teaching techniques and aids to enable individuals to instruct others in the knowledge of local emergency care systems, understanding risk factors, signals and actions for survival, and recognition of indications for life support and accurate performance of the same.

Class participants must have a current AHA BLS CPR card. The required textbook is available at the Hawks Shop, which is located in the Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

Cost of the class, with Trever O’Brien the instructor, is $113.50.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will be hosting two courses on Microsoft Outlook, beginning soon.

Microsoft Outlook 2016 – Level I (INFO 5130/18S & CRN #70187) will be held Tuesday and Thursday, April 24 and 26, from 6-9 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.

Microsoft Outlook is the email client and personal information organizer that allows users to check, sort and organize emails. However, that is only the start of what can be done with Outlook. In this course, participants will learn to work with calendars, scheduling appointments and meetings and organizing contacts in addition to working with messages.

Microsoft Outlook 2016 – Level II (INFO 5330/18S CRN #70188) will be held Tuesday and Thursday, May 1 and 3, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the same location.

In this intermediate-level class, participants will learn to use calendars and social connectors more efficiently to stay organized and communicate more effectively. They will learn to use voting, priority, tracking options, delayed delivery and more when sending and receiving messages. They will also learn to use advanced calendar options and advanced task features.

Cost of each class, with Stacy Anderson the instructor, is $60.

NORFOLK -Two new professional development courses will be offered by Northeast Community College soon.

Conducting Productive & Effective Meetings (BSAD 5140/18S & CRN #70091) will meet Thursday, April 26, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce, 609 W. Norfolk Ave. Hilary Maricle is the instructor.

Even though meetings themselves are important because they assist in relationship building, communication, strategy planning and more, workers often find them boring and unproductive. This course will teach leaders strategies and tips for conducting effective meetings.

Team Building (BSAD 5125/18S & CRN #70177) will meet Tuesday, May 1, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the same location. Dan Kuester is the instructor.

The overall goals of team building are to increase the team’s understanding of team dynamic and improve how the team works together. Unlike working as a group, working as a team incorporates group accountability rather than individual accountability and results in a collective work product. The focus of this training is to understand the importance of teams and develop skills that are necessary to build highly productive teams.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City has scheduled a class that will introduce students to a fun way to keep fit.

Zumba! (HPER 5115/18S & CRN #70074) meets Thursdays, April 26-May 17, from 5:30-6:15 p.m., in Room 126C of the South Sioux City Extended Campus, 1001 College Way.

A combination of Latin dance and other forms of dance fitness, Zumba is easy to learn and always a blast. Join Instructor Jenny Durant as she covers easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program.
