Northeast to offer classes at Norfolk Campus later this month

Northeast Community College is offering classes at its Norfolk Campus later this month. Class information can be found below:

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer two sessions of a non-credit class to equip 14-17-year-olds with the basic skills to operate a motor vehicle.

The Provisional Operator’s Permit (P.O.P.) Driver’s Education Course (TRAN 5110/18F & CRN #60026/60027) will meet Saturday, September 8, from 8-12:30 p.m.; Saturdays, September 15 and 22, from 8-12 p.m.; and Sundays, September 9 and 16, from 1-5 p.m. in Room 116 of the Utility Line Building, just east of the Northeast Community College campus on Benjamin Avenue. Dan Loofe is the instructor.

The class includes 20 hours of classroom lecture. The required driving lab hours will be arranged between the instructor and the student.

Students are asked to bring their learner’s or school driving permit to the first class. A book will be provided. Students must sign up for both the lecture class and the driving sessions. A parent or guardian is asked to attend the first part of the first class along with the student.

Cost of the class is $295.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College in Norfolk has announced several free, one-session workshops for emergency medical service technicians during the month of September.

The workshops are offered for three continuing education credits. All workshops will be conducted in local fire halls.

There is no need to pre-register. The workshops, dates, times and locations include:

EVOC Saturday, September 8 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Coleridge

EVOC Saturday, September 15 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Creighton

Self Defense in EMS Tuesday, September 18 7-10 p.m. Neligh

This program is funded in whole or in part with funds provided through the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Office of Emergency Health System.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a course on personal safety, beginning soon.

Personal Safety & Awareness (HPER 5120/18F & CRN #60318) will meet two consecutive Tuesdays, September 11 and 18, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s Norfolk campus.

This course will teach participants the importance and need for awareness, along with ways to ensure one’s own personal security and safety in a variety of different circumstances. Lecture, group discussions and hands-on training will be included in the course.

This course is also taught by Julie Clark, a former law enforcement officer with 15 years of experience and over 1,200 hours of training in the subject matter. She is a general certified instructor for law enforcement.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College’s will hold a class next month that introduces learners to the Adobe Lightroom software.

Adobe Lightroom Photo Editing will be held Thursday, September 13, from 6-9 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s Norfolk campus.

Participants will learn to perform editing and image processing and share their best images in a variety of creative ways. The class uses a hands-on approach, and all participants are asked to bring 10 of their photos to class on a flash drive as well as their own cameras. Instructor Elley Coffin will show participants some simple how-tos as they edit their own personal photos.

Cost of the class is $30.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a class on meal preparation for athletes, beginning soon.

Meal Prep for Athletes (HOEC 5175/18F & CRN #60321) meets on Thursday, September 13, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.

This class is ideal for athletes or parents of athletes who want to ensure good nutrition as part of their daily regiment during training periods and sports competitions. Participants will discover the methods and benefits of meal prepping. They will learn efficient meal prep strategies and guidelines for prepping food in large quantities. They will also receive tips on how to gain weight without sacrificing muscle mass or gaining unwanted body fat. Meal plans for 2,500-5,000 calories, advice and recipes will also be provided. This class is suitable for both male and female athletes.

Cost of the class, with Tina Collison the instructor, is $30.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College will offer three Advanced Cardiac Life Support Renewal courses during the month of September.

The first option (HLTH 5505/17S & CRN #60132) will be held Friday, September 14. A second session will be held on Thursday, September 20 (HLTH 5505/18S & CRN #60133), and a third session will be meet Tuesday, September 24 (HLTH 5505/18F & CRN #60134). All courses meet from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Room at Faith Regional Health Services, 2700 W. Norfolk Avenue in Norfolk.

The ACLS Renewal course is open to those healthcare professionals who have completed the ACLS Provider Course within the last two years and have a current Basic Life Support card. Pre-course Requirements: Review of Manual, review of information on student CD, completion of ACLS Pre-course Self-Assessment test. Participants are asked to print their test score and bring to class. In addition, please bring your current BLS CPR card.

Cost of the class is $80. A book is available in the Hawks Shop in the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer two Basic Life Support (BLS) courses for healthcare providers in September.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Course (HLTH 5300/18F & CRN #60078) will be held Saturday, September 22 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in Room 105 of the Arlo Wirth Building on the Norfolk campus.

This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of this class, with Brock Soderberg the instructor, is $60. The textbook for the course is available in the Hawks Shop in the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Renewal (HLTH 5305/18F & CRN #60124) will be held Wednesday, September 12, from 6-10 p.m. in Room 101 of the Arlo Worth Building.

Designed for a wide variety of healthcare professionals, this course is designed to refresh skills related to recognizing several life-threatening emergencies, providing CPR, using an AED and relieving choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Participants are asked to bring their current certification card to the class.

The required textbook is available at the Hawks Shop at the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

Cost of the class, with Bradley Korth the instructor, is $40.
