Northeast to offer more classes next month at West Point, Norfolk and Hartington Campuses

Northeast Community College is offering classes at its West Point, Norfolk, and Hartington Campuses next month. Information on the most recent classes announced can be found below:

HARTINGTON – Northeast Community College’s Hartington regional office will offer an interactive sewing class in February in Hartington.

Basic Sewing II (HOEC 5300/18S & CRN #70165) will be held Mondays, February 12 and 19, from
6-9 p.m., at the Hartington-Newcastle Public Schools in Hartington.

This class takes sewing to the next level with instruction on various sewing techniques. Participants will learn various skills, such as reading and understanding a pattern
as well as sewing pockets, zippers, buttonholes and a number of other techniques.

Participants are asked to bring their own sewing machines.

Cost of the class, with Karen Flamig the instructor, is $60.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer two Microsoft Excel classes beginning soon.

Microsoft Excel 2016 – Level I (INFO 5115/18S & CRN #70142) will meet two consecutive Tuesdays, February 13 and 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 212, at 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

In this class, participants will explore the essentials of Microsoft Excel as they analyze, manage and share data of all kinds. They will learn to construct and modify worksheets, incorporate formulas and functions, navigate worksheets and workbooks with ease as well as use functions and formatting techniques to evaluate and organize data effectively.

Microsoft Excel 2016 – Level II (INFO 5315/18S & CRN #70149) will meet two consecutive Tuesdays, February 27 and March 6, at the same time and location.

This introductory course is for those who have been exposed to Excel and its basic commands. Topics covered include creating tables and graphs, working with large worksheets, adding graphics to worksheets, moving and sizing images, using smart art, using and managing multiple worksheets, named ranges and more.

Cost of each class, with Diann Ballard the instructor, is $60.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer two QuickBooks classes next month.

QuickBooks – Level I (ACCT 5100/18S & CRN #70141) will meet two consecutive Tuesdays, February 13 and 20, from 1-4 p.m. at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 212, at 202 Anna Stalp Ave.

This course covers the basics of setting up a company, creating customers, receiving payments and making deposits into bank accounts. Students will work with and create vendors and paying bills. They will also create and edit a chart of accounts for a company, run reports and reconcile bank accounts.

QuickBooks – Level II (ACCT 5300/18S & CRN #70148) will be held two consecutive Tuesdays, February 27 and March 6, from 1-4 p.m. in the same location.

This course covers creating inventory, dealing with items and adjusting inventory counts on a continual basis. Students will learn about sales tax and sales tax groups, paying sales tax, running payroll and paying payroll liabilities. They will also create capital assets, utilize the loan manager and create an amortization schedule. Dealing with bad debt and creating journal entries will also be covered.

NORFOLK – A course on cake decorating offered by Northeast Community College next month will make Valentine’s Day extra sweet.

Sweet Hearts Cake (HOEC 5180/18S & CRN #70193) will be held Tuesday, February 13, from 6-8 p.m. in Room 105A of the Weller Building on the Norfolk campus.

In this beginning level class, participants will learn how to ice and decorate a cake using a variety of decorating techniques and tools to create a heart-inspired treat. They will also receive helpful advice and resources to use in the class and at home.

Decorating tools and a supplies, as well as a cake, are included in the cost of the class and will be available to take home when the class concludes.

Cost of the class, with Jessica Dvorak the instructor, is $49.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer two, one-credit courses utilizing Adobe products.

Adobe InDesign (ARTS 5175 & CRN# 70143) will be held Tuesday, February 13, from 6:30-9:30 p.m., in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 212, at
202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

In this class, participants will create and publish beautiful documents for print and digital media. InDesign has everything you need to make posters, brochures, newsletters, magazines, annual reports, interactive online documents and more. Instruction includes essential application processes, basic design principles, and professional practices that
will provide you with a functional knowledge and a foundation for advanced Graphic Design work.

Adobe Photoshop (ARTS 5120 & CRN #70144) will be offered on Tuesday, February 20, at the same time and location.

Whether you are looking for everyday edits or total transformations, Photoshop offers a complete set of tools to turn your snapshots into works of art. Class participants
will learn the basics of Photoshop and how to organize, enhance and edit photographs. They will begin to create a project by playing with color, effects, and more.

Cost of each class, with Pattie Schinstock the instructor, is $30.

WEST POINT – In today’s complicated world with uncertain economies, estate planning is essential. Northeast Community College in West Point has scheduled a two-session class in February designed to review different forms of estate planning and probate that are available.

The class, Estate Planning and the Probate Process – What, Why, How, (FNPL 5110 & CRN # 70183) will meet Thursdays, February 15 and 22, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 207, at 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

Preparing documents such as wills, trusts and power of attorneys in advance, may alleviate stress and bring comfort and clarity during the grieving process. In this class, Instructor Ben Borgmann will teach participants what to consider before having these documents prepared, how to protect assets, minimize tax consequences, how to designate someone else to make important decisions, and how to ensure those wishes are carried out.

Cost of the two-session class is $30.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer two Basic Life Support (BLS) courses for healthcare providers in February.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Course (HLTH 5300/18S & CRN #70230) will be held Saturday, February 17, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in Room 105 of the Arlo Worth Building on the Norfolk campus.

This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of this class, with Trever O’Brien the instructor, is $60. The textbook for the course is available in the Hawks Shop in the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Renewal (HLTH 5305/18S & CRN #70236) will be held Wednesday, February 14, from 6-10 p.m. in Room 101 of the Arlo Worth Building.

Designed for a wide variety of healthcare professionals, this course is designed to refresh skills related to recognizing several life-threatening emergencies, providing CPR, using an AED and relieving choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Participants are asked to bring their current certification card to the class.

The required textbook is available at the Hawks Shop at the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

Cost of the class, with Bradley Korth the instructor, is $40.
