Northeast to hold more classes at area campuses later this month

Northeast Community College is holding more classes at their West Point, Norfolk, and South Sioux City later this month. Class information can be found below:

 

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a three credit Medication Aide class beginning later this month.

The course (HLTH 1120/18F & CRN #15450) will be held Mondays and Thursdays, October 22-November 29, from 5-9 p.m. at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, 430 N. Monitor Street, in West Point. The first class will meet at Northeast’s West Point extended campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue. Mary Dickson is the instructor.

This course is designed to prepare students to assume the role and responsibilities of a Medication Aide working in a nursing facility. The course includes information regarding medication administration, pharmacology rules and regulations, classification of drugs, orders, storage abbreviations and an overview of commonly used drugs and documentation.

Cost of each class is $348 for Nebraska residents. Textbooks are available for purchase for $56.18.

WEST POINT – A class later this month at Northeast Community College in West Point will give kids the chance to create their own spooky jewelry in time for the Halloween season.

Jewelry Making for Kids (HOEC 5135/18F & CRN #60199) meets Monday, October 22, from 6-8 p.m. in Room 209 of the West Point extended campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

Kids will conjure up some spooky jewelry in this class, and will choose to craft earrings, necklace or a bracelet with pumpkins, spiders, witches, ghosts and more. The class is recommended for children ages eight and up.

Cost of the class, with Judy Mutzenberger the instructor, is $30. All supplies are included in the cost of the class.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City will offer a Nurse Aide course, beginning soon.

Basic Nurse Aide (NURA 1110/17 & CRN #14867) will meet October 23-December 4, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-9:30 p.m. as well as three Saturdays, November 3, 17 and December 1, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The class will be held in Room 214B of the South Sioux City extended campus, 1001 College Way.

This three-credit course is designed to meet the Nebraska Health and Human Services System training requirements for nurse aide certification and employment in long-term care facilities. The course combines classroom lecture and laboratory application for the development of basic skills needed to provide safe, effective and caring services to the elderly or chronically ill patient of any age in a long-term care facility.

Upon completion of this course, the student is eligible to take the state written and practical skills exam. After successfully passing this exam and completing the application procedure, the student’s name will be placed on the basic nurse aide registry at the Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure, Credentialing Division.

Cost of the class, with Connie Windehausen the instructor, is $348 for Nebraska residents. The required textbook is available at the College Center bookstore. An additional $45 fee will be required if the student chooses to register to take the Certified Nursing Assistant exam at the end of the course. The fee will be required at the time of the non-credit exam registration.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City has scheduled a class that will introduce learners to conversational Spanish.

Beginning Conversational Spanish (SPAN 5100/18F & CRN #60166) meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, October 23-November 1, from 5:30-7 p.m., in Room 132 of the South Sioux City Extended Campus, 1001 College Way.

This beginner-level course is specially designed for those who have not had any previous exposure to the Spanish language. It is designed to help the learner develop basic vocabulary and effective pronunciation skills. Ideal for business or personal development, the course focuses on practical, real-world language with an emphasis on oral communication.

Cost of the class, with Carmen Stark the instructor, is $60.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a new class soon on how to soothe and comfort the mind, body and soul with an herbal home spa.

Herbal Home Spa (HOEC 5160/18F & CRN #60247) will meet Tuesday, October 23, from 7-9 p.m. at the Northeast Community College West Point Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue, in Room 219.

In this class, participants will learn how to make herbal beauty treatments used for relaxing baths, facials, hair conditioners, skin softening and aromatherapy. The will also learn about herbs and essential oils used to relax and reduce stress. Recipes for sugar scrub, mineral salts and lavender/oatmeal/almond scrub will also be included.

Cost of the class, with Rachel Liester the instructor, is $27.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City will hold two courses on QuickBooks, starting soon.

QuickBooks Level 1 (ACCT 5100/18F & CRN #60151) will meet three consecutive Wednesdays, October 24-November 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Room 135 at the South Sioux City Extended Campus, 1001 College Way.

This introductory course covers the basics of setting up a company, creating customers, receiving payments and making deposits into bank accounts. Students will work with and create vendors and pay bills, create and edit a chart of accounts for their company, run reports and reconcile bank accounts.

QuickBooks Level 2 (ACCT 5300/18F & CRN #60169) will meet three consecutive Wednesdays, November 28-December 12, at the same time and location.

This course covers creating inventory, dealing with items and adjusting inventory counts on a continual basis. Students will learn about Sales Tax and Sales Tax groups, paying sales tax, running payroll and paying payroll liabilities. They will create capital assets and utilize the Loan Manager, generating an amortization schedules. Bad debt and creating journal entries will also be covered.

Cost of each class, with Michele McCreary the instructor, is $60.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will hold a class later this month for those who wish
to recertify their CPR instructor cards.

CPR Instructor Renewal (HLTH 5400/18F & CRN #60434), will be held Wednesday, October 24, from 6-10 p.m. in the in the Arlo Wirth Building, Room 124, on Northeast’s Norfolk campus.

This American Heart Association course is a re-certification for current CPR instructors. Any new materials and procedures will be included in this four-hour class. Students must bring their current instructor card to class.

Trevor O’Brien is the instructor of this class. Cost is $40.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a non-credit class later this month to equip 14-17-year-olds with the basic skills to operate a motor vehicle.

The Provisional Operator’s Permit (P.O.P.) Driver’s Education Course (TRAN 5110/18F & CRN #60030/60031) will be held Thursday, October 25, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.; Wednesday, October 31, from 6-8:30 p.m.; Saturday, November 3, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.; and Sundays, November 4 and 11, from 1-6 p.m. The class, with Lorie Summers the instructor, will meet at Norfolk Public High School, 801 Riverside Blvd., in Room 401.

The class includes 20 hours of classroom lecture. The required driving lab hours will be arranged between the instructor and the student.

Students are asked to bring their learner’s or school driving permit to the first class. A book will be provided. Students must sign up for both the lecture class and the driving sessions. A parent or guardian is asked to attend the first part of the first class along with the student.

Cost of the class is $295.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a class soon for those struggling to find new ways to style their children’s hair.

Kids’ Hairstyling (HORC 5140/18F & CRN #60201) will be held Thursday, October 25, from 7-9 p.m. in Room 211 of the West Point Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

In this hands-on class, instructor Terri Johnson will teach participants how to create the right hairstyle for their child while demonstrating different styles such as ponytails, braids and buns. They will also learn about proper hair care and products. They will also learn to style hair on the class’s models.

Cost for the course is $20.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – The Northeast Community College South Sioux City extended campus will welcome the fall season with a fun class for kids.

Designer Trick-or-Treat Bags (HOEC 5135/19F & CRN #60172) will meet Friday, October 26, from 1-2:30 p.m. at the South Sioux City Extended Campus, 1001 College Way, Room 216. South Sioux City Community Schools are not in session that day.

In this fun class, children and their parents or grandparents will create a one-of-a-kind trick-or-treat bag. Halloween games, face painting, story time and other activities will be included. Supplies and Halloween treats will be provided.

The event is open to all ages.

Cost of the class, with Dawn Smith the instructor, is $15.
