Numerous classes are coming up in mid-October at Northeast Community College’s Campuses in West Point, Norfolk, and South Sioux City. Class information can be found below:

 

NORFOLK – The Center for Enterprise at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a series of courses designed for real estate professionals on October 15 and 16.

Real Estate: Protecting Yourself & Your Clients from Mortgage Fraud (0558) (REAL 5345/18F & CRN #60385) will be held Monday, October 15, from 8:30-11:30 p.m. in Room 121 of the Maclay Building on the Norfolk campus.

In this intermediate level class, participants will learn how to protect their licenses, and the trust and finances of their buyers and sellers, as they examine how to identify and professionally handle fraud in the mortgage banking business.

Real Estate: 10 Essentials Points in Seller Representation (0442R) (REAL 5320/18F & CRN #60386) meets that afternoon from 12:30-3:30 p.m. in the same location.

In this intermediate level class, participants will learn the key points to better represent their sellers through proven tips and techniques for pricing, defining markets, home inspections, negotiations, disclosures and more. These points will help increase value to the seller by selling their home faster, easier and in a more professional manner.

Real Estate: Pricing It Right (0122R) (REAL 5155/18F & CRN #60384) meets that evening from 6-9 p.m. in the same location.

This basic level courses is one of the best for price determination for both buyer and seller. It is presented with a unique perspective for pricing matched with an appraiser’s comparative price adjustment to give participants an edge the next time they need to “price it right.”

Real Estate: Look Who’s Talking: The Value of Quality Communication in the Real Estate Transaction (0599) (REAL 5230/18F & CRN #60387) meets Tuesday, October 16, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the same location.

This basic level course can help make all transactions run a little faster and smoother. Participants will learn the keys to quality service and how to keep everyone involved and on the same page for all real estate activities.

Real Estate: The Licensee’s Role for Seller Property Condition Disclosure Statement (0525R) (REAL 5220/18F & CRN #60388) meets from 12:30-3:30 p.m. that same afternoon in the same location.

This class focuses on reducing company/agent risk in the completing, presenting, explaining and executing of the Seller Property Condition Disclosure Statement (SPCDS).

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer two QuickBooks classes next month.

QuickBooks – Level I (ACCT 5100/18F & CRN #60198) will meet two consecutive Tuesday, October 16, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Northeast Community College in West Point, 202 Anna Stalp Ave., in Room 212.

This course covers the basics of setting up a company, creating customers, receiving payments and making deposits into bank accounts. Students will work with and create vendors and paying bills. They will also create and edit a chart of accounts for a company, run reports and reconcile bank accounts.

QuickBooks – Level II (ACCT 5300/18F & CRN #60200) will be held two consecutive Tuesday, October 23, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the same location.

This course covers creating inventory, dealing with items and adjusting inventory counts on a continual basis. Students will learn about sales tax and sales tax groups, paying sales tax, running payroll and paying payroll liabilities. They will also create capital assets, utilize the loan manager and create an amortization schedule. Dealing with bad debt and creating journal entries will also be covered.

WEST POINT – Healthcare costs in retirement are a top concern for many individuals as they approach age 65 and have retirement dates and plans on their horizon. However, not everyone knows or understands what benefits and healthcare options are available to them, but a new class at Northeast Community College in West Point seeks to demystify the process.

Medicare 101 – Surviving Medicare Mayhem (FNPL 5115/18F & CRN #60331) will meet Tuesday, October 16, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Northeast Community College in West Point, 202 Anna Stalp Ave.

This course is an introduction to Medicare and is intended to help individuals survive the “Medicare Mayhem” as they approach retirement age. Participants will gain a firm understanding of the rights, benefits and options of this healthcare option. They will be able to make an educated decision on the various supplemental health plans available to them, while familiarizing themselves with the costs, copayments and limitations of Medicare.

Cost of each class, with Pamela Bales the instructor, is $15.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City will offer a course intended to help individuals survive the “Medicare Mayhem” as they approach retirement age.

Medicare 101 – Surviving Medicare Mayhem (FNPL 5115/18F & CRN #60330) will be held Tuesday, October 16, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in Room 131 of the South Sioux City extended campus, 1001 College Way. Pamela Bales is the instructor.

Ideal for employees considering retirement, this course is an introduction to Medicare and is intended to help individuals survive the “Medicare Mayhem” that exists as retirement age nears. Participants will gain a firm understanding of the rights, benefits and options of this healthcare option. They will learn to make an educated decision on the various supplemental health plans available to them while realizing the costs, copayments and limitations of Medicare.

Cost of the course is $15. Participants are invited to bring their own lunches.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer an introductory course on watercolor painting, beginning soon.

Watercolor for Beginners (ARTS 5163/18F & CRN #60197) will be held two consecutive Tuesday, October 16, from 6-9 p.m. in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 209, at 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

In this course, participants will discover basic watercolor techniques that many artists use. They will begin class by learning about the difference in brushes and paper; how to blend color and play with brush strokes; water-to-paint ratio; and incorporating unexpected items to create fun and interesting effects. The last half of the class will be devoted to applying these techniques to create a finished piece of art.

Cost of the course, with Jeanette Johnson the instructor, is $47. Supplies are included in the cost of the class.

Northeast Community College to offer electrical licensing class

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer another one credit course in electrical licensing in October.

Electrical Licensing I (ELTR 2015/18F & CRN #14440) will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, October 16-25, from 6:30-10 p.m. in the Applied Technology building, Room 115 A/B.

In this class, Instructor Dan Frohberg will cover a minimum of eight hours on code with the additional eight hours on related topics. These classes, tailored to fit needs and requirements, will also cover the changes in the National Electrical Code and Calculations. They are also used for education hours needed for licensing.

Cost of the course is $116.

NORFOLK – The Business and Technology Division at Northeast Community College has added several one-credit technology classes to its upcoming schedule.

Microsoft Word 2016 – Online (OFFT 1510/18F & CRN #14680) will be held October 17-December 14, online.

In this course, participants will gain practical experience in operating the word processing portion of the Microsoft Office suite. Kris Coan is the instructor for the course.

Microsoft Excel 2016 – Online (OFFT 1520/18F & CRN #14679) will meet October 17-December 14, online.

In this class, students will be introduced to using a Microsoft Excel worksheet for decision making and mathematical calculations. Kris Coan is the instructor.

Microsoft Outlook 2016 (OFFT 1580/18F & CRN #13934) will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, October 17-December 14, from 12-12:50 p.m. in Room 126 of the Maclay Building on Northeast’s Norfolk campus.

Participants will learn to use this Microsoft mail program to send and receive email, and also as a personal organizer to schedule meetings, appointments and tasks. Trevor Bailey is the instructor.

Web Page Development (INFO 1710/18F & CRN #10584) will meet Tuesdays, October 17-December 14, from 5:30-7:15 p.m. in Room 132 of the Echtenkamp Building on the Norfolk campus.

Participants will learn the basics of Hyper-Text Markup Language (HTML) as they plan, design and create an internet web page. Kirk Christian is the instructor for the class.

Cost of each course is $113.50.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer two continuing education courses for insurance professionals next month.

Insurance: Ethical Decision Making (31948-NE) (INSU 5250/18F & CRN #60304) will be held Thursday, October 18, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue, in Room 219.

In this three-hour ethics course, participants will review a variety of ethical decision making models and then apply through case study reviews by implementing the models they learn in class.

Insurance: Cybercrime & Hacker Liability (31438-NE) (INSU 5255/18F & CRN #60305) will be held Thursday, October 18, from 1-4 p.m. in the same location.

In this three-hour property/casualty course, participants will learn the latest on cybercrime and the policies being written. They will learn what types of tools organizations are offering to assist both consumer and business in evaluating cyber issues and what products are available to protect a business.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a new class soon on herbal dream pillows, small sachets filled with scented herbs that tuck into a pillowcase.

Herbal Dream Pillows (HOEC 5160/18F & CRN #60246) will meet Thursday, October 18, from 7-9 p.m. at the Northeast Community College West Point Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue, in Room 211.

In this DIY class, participants will learn to make dream pillows for themselves and as gifts. They will also learn about the herbs used in them, and recipes will be included for sleep-inducing and dream-enhancing pillows.

Cost of the class, with Rachel Liester the instructor, is $27.
