Creating Coasters! (HOEC 5135/17F & CRN #60180) will be offered Tuesday, September 12, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue, Room 201.
In this class, participants will “coast” into fall with a great gift idea for the holidays. They will learn how to make Mod Podge on 5 x 5 inch tiles and create four drink coasters. Participants will need to bring four pages of scrapbook paper (design of your choice), scissors and a ruler. All other supplies will be provided.

Crochet: Basics and Beyond (HOEC 5130/17F & CRN #60041) will meet two consecutive Wednesdays, September 13 and 20, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue, Room 201.
Participants will learn the stitches, tools and techniques needed to get started with crochet. They will join instructor Carol Schuetze as she provides step-by-step instruction for getting started, from selecting the right yarn and deciphering yarn labels to properly holding the hook while working yarn. WEST POINT – Northeast Community College will offer a new fall-themed floral arranging class in Wisner next month.
Floral Arranging – Mummy Centerpiece (HOEC 5135/17F & CRN #60339) will meet Wednesday, September 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Two Blooms and a Bud, 922 Avenue E, in Wisner.
Participants will create a mummy floral centerpiece with three differently sized candle Mason jars, tea lights and flowers. They will learn to assemble a beautiful arrangement with silk or real flowers. All ages are welcome.
The class is taught by Wendy Wemhoff, who has been in the floral industry for ten years and has owned her own shop for six.
“I am so excited to be able to share my creativity and skills in a fun setting, and I am looking forward to meeting the participants,” she said.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer two Basic Life Support (BLS) courses for healthcare providers in September.
BLS for Healthcare Provider Course (HLTH 5300/17S & CRN #70123) will be held Saturday, September 9, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Room 105 of the Arlo Worth Building on the Norfolk campus.
This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer another one credit course in electrical licensing in September.
Electrical Licensing I (ELTR 2015/17F & CRN #14175) will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 12-21, from 6:30-10 p.m. in the Applied Technology building, Room 115 A/B.
In this class, Instructor Dan Frohberg will cover a minimum of eight hours on code with the additional eight hours on related topics. These classes, tailored to fit needs and requirements, will also cover the changes in the National Electrical Code and Calculations. They are also used for education hours needed for licensing.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will offer two continuing education courses for insurance professionals in September.

Participants will discuss underwriting in the black box, optional auto product endorsements, driverless vehicles and how all affect the management of claims in auto insurance.

In this course, participants will review cyber exposure in today’s business environment. They will learn the latest on underwriting, evaluating risk, identifying coverages and best practices for business.

NORFOLK – The Business and Technology Division at Northeast Community College has added a QuickBooks class to its upcoming schedule.
Introduction to QuickBooks (ACCT 2000/17F & CRN #14678) meets September 11-October 10. Class will be held Tuesdays, from 6-8:45 p.m., in the Maclay Building, Room 126, on the Norfolk campus.

NORFOLK –Northeast Community College will offer an additional course option next month for those interested in learning the basics of motorcycle riding.
Motorcycle Rider Course (TRAN 5105/17F & CRN #60027/60028) will be offered Friday through Sunday, September 15-17.. Hours on Friday will be 6:30-10 p.m.; Saturday, 7:50 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and Sunday 7:50 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Classes will be held in Room 103 in the Northeast Community College Utility Line building, just east of the main campus on Benjamin Avenue.
The class includes five hours of classroom instruction and ten hours of riding instruction. It begins with the basics, such as turning, shifting, and braking. Then it moves on to more advance street riding strategies. Professionally trained instructors teach in the classroom and then coach riders in a controlled riding area.
Within 30 days of the completing the course, students are required to take the MSF Basic eCourse. Details regarding this course will be sent to students after they register for the Motorcycle Rider Course. There is no additional cost for the mandatory eCourse.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will hold another Nurse Aide course beginning next month.
The course (NURA 1110/17F & CRN #14980) will meet Mondays, September 11-November 13, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in Room 104/115 of the Arlo Wirth Building on the Norfolk campus. Theresa Wiese is the instructor.
This course is designed to meet the Nebraska Health and Human Services System training requirements for nurse aide certification and employment in long-term care facilities. The class combines classroom lecture and laboratory application for the development of basic skills needed to provide safe, effective, and caring services to the elderly or chronically ill patient of any age in a long-term care facility.
Upon completion of this course, the student is eligible to take the state written and practical skills exam. After successfully passing this examination and completing the application procedure, the student’s name will be placed on the basic nurse aide registry at the Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure, Credentialing Division.
Cost of the course is $340.50. An additional $45 fee will be required is a student chooses to register to take the Certified Nursing Assistant exam at the end of the course. A book is also available at the Hawks Shop, which is located in the Student Center on the Norfolk campus, (402) 844-7140.

The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer two pediatric advanced life support renewal courses in September.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support Renewal will be offered twice. The first option (HLTH 5515/17F & CRN #60073) will meet on Tuesday, September 12, and the second option (HLTH 5515/17F & CRN #60091) will be held Tuesday, September 26. Both classes will meet from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Faith Regional Health Services, 2700 West Norfolk Avenue in Norfolk.
This class is open to those who have completed the PALS Provider course within the last two years and hold a current Basic Life Support card. It provides a review of course material and re-verification of skills and knowledge.
Pre-course requirements include: review of the manual, review of information on student CD and completion of the PALS pre-course self-assessment test. Participants are asked to print their test score and bring it to class, along with a current Basic Life Support CPR card.
Cost is $80.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer an additional non-credit class to equip 14-17-year-olds with the basic skills to operate a motor vehicle.
The Provisional Operator’s Permit (P.O.P.) Driver’s Education Course (TRAN 5110/17F & CRN # 60024/60025) will be held September 10-27. Class will be held Sundays, 4-8 p.m.; and Mondays, 6-8 p.m., with an additional meeting on Wednesday, September 27, from 6-8 p.m. The class meets in Room 116 of the Utility Line Building, east of the Norfolk campus.
The class includes 20 hours of classroom lecture. The required six hours of driving lab will be arranged between the instructor and the student.
Students are asked to bring their learner’s or school driving permit to the first class. A book will be provided. Students must sign up for both the lecture class and the driving sessions.

HARTINGTON – Northeast Community College in Hartington will a class next month on making fall-themed wood pallet decorations.
Wood Pallet Holiday Decorations (HOEC 5135/17SF& CRN #60328) will meet Thursday, September 14, from 6-9 p.m. at Hartington-Newcastle Public Schools, 501 S. Broadway Ave., in Hartington.
In this class, students welcome the fall season by making a simple and attractive home decoration. Using wood pallets, paint and a little creativity, participants will create a reversible scarecrow/pilgrim decoration just in time for the fall season. Instructor Russell Flamig will walk participants through the planning and construction stages as they assemble and paint their projects in class.
All materials are included in the class’s cost, which is $40.
SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City will offer a class in September that demystifies the newest Windows operating system.
Windows 10 (INFO 5190/17F & CRN #60151) will be held Tuesday, September 12, from 5:15-8:15 p.m., in Room 227 of the South Sioux City Extended Campus, 1001 College Way.
Participants will explore a variety of new features of the Windows 10 operating system, including exploring new desktop features, working with enhanced file and folder management, working with various programs in Windows and securing the computer using new and enhanced features.
