Northeast offering late February classes and a March Class at area campuses

Northeast Community College is offering classes at its Norfolk, Hartington, and South Sioux City campuses at the end of the month and one class in March. Information on each course can be found below:

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will offer another intensive six-week Professional Truck Driving course beginning later this month.

The course (TRDR 5100/17F & CRN #60033/60034) will be held Monday-Friday, February 26-April 10, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Utility Line/Truck Driving building, Room 104, across from Northeast’s main campus in Norfolk.

In this course, students will learn to operate articulated vehicles in a training environment that includes driving on city streets, two-lane and interstate highways. The program includes 240 contact hours, 44-plus hours of behind the wheel training and 190 hours of classroom, lab and observation.

Students will go for night drives and long runs. This means being gone for a week, overnights and
14-hour days.

Cost for the course, with Ed Lewis and Ryan Cook the instructors, is $1,995. Tuition does not include the cost of books, Department of Transportation physical, drug screen, MVR report, learner’s permit or the CDL license. Financial assistance is available through the Community College GAP Assistance Program for students meeting income guidelines. For more information, call (402) 844-7245.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will offer a special interest class soon for anyone wanting to learn how to knit.

Beginners Knitting (HOEC 5170/18S & CRN #70195) will be held Monday and Thursday, February 26 and March 1, from 6-8 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center (LLC) on the Norfolk campus.

In this interactive class, participants will knit a small project as they learn the basics to knit their own projects. They will learn to knit, purl, cast on and cast off as well as learn basic pattern reading. Materials are supplied and included in the cost of the class.

Cost of the class, with Brenda Potts the instructor, is $50.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will hold a class later this month for those who want
to recertify their CPR instructor cards.

CPR Instructor Renewal (HLTH 5400/18S & CRN #70241), will be held Monday, February 26, from 6-10 p.m. in the in the Arlo Wirth Building, Room 101.

This American Heart Association course is a re-certification for current CPR instructors. Any new materials and procedures will be included in this four-hour class. Students must bring their current instructor card to class.

Trevor O’Brien is the instructor of this class. Cost is $40.

HARTINGTON – The Hartington regional office of Northeast Community College will offer a crochet class in Hartington later this month.

Crochet – Baby Hat (HOEC 5130/18S & CRN #70322) will be held Tuesday, February 27, from 6-8 p.m. at the Hartington City Library, 106 S. Broadway Ave.

In this course, participants will crochet their own baby hats. The quick pattern can be completed in one class session. Participants will learn to crochet like a pro and create a special gift for an expecting mother or a donation to a charity.

Students will need to bring an H/5MM crochet hook, one skein of worsted weight yarn (#4) in a choice of color and scissors.

Cost of the class, with Mandy Hochstein the instructor, is $20.

HARTINGTON – Northeast Community College’s Hartington regional office will offer a class next month on estate planning and probate.

Estate Planning & Probate – What, Why, How (FNPL 5110/18S & CRN #70323) will be held two consecutive Tuesdays, February 27 and March 6, from 6:30- 8 p.m., at the Hartington City Library, 106 S. Broadway Ave. in Hartington.

Estate planning can be very beneficial for those loved ones left behind. Preparing documents like wills, trusts and power of attorneys in advance may alleviate stress and bring comfort and clarity to the grieving process. In this two-session class, participants will learn about what to consider before having documents prepared, how to protect assets, minimize tax consequences, designate someone else to make important decisions and ensure those wishes are carried out.

Cost of the class, with Steven Pier the instructor, is $30.

HARTINGTON – The Northeast Community College regional office in Hartington will offer a class later this month in Wausa on making holiday-themed wood pallet decorations.

Wood Pallet Holiday Decorations – Reversible Leprechaun/Easter Bunny (HOEC 5135/18S & CRN #70088) will meet Wednesday, February 28, from 6-9 p.m. at Wausa Public Schools, 300 S. Bismark St.

In this class, students will welcome spring by making a reversible St. Patrick’s Day/Easter decoration for the home. Using wood pallets, paint and a little creativity, participants will create a reversible leprechaun/Easter Bunny decoration. In this fun an interactive class, Instructor Russell Flamig will walk participants through the planning and construction stages. They will assemble and paint their holiday projects in class.

All materials are included in the class’s cost, which is $40.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City has scheduled a class that will introduce students to a fun way to keep fit.

Zumba! (HPER 5115/18S & CRN #70072) meets Thursdays, March 1-22, from 5:30-6:15 p.m., in Room 126C of the South Sioux City Extended Campus, 1001 College Way.

A combination of Latin dance and other forms of dance fitness, Zumba is easy to learn and always a blast. Join Instructor Jenny Durant as she covers easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program.

Cost of the class is $30.
