North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau Grant Awards
(North Platte, Nebraska, March 1, 2019) – The North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau awarded $3,350 in Promotional, Incentive and Sports Incentive funding at the February 27 Advisory Committee Meeting.
In 1991, after the community of Burwell had hosted the Miss Rodeo Nebraska Pageant for 36 years, the pageant was moved to North Platte so it could be presented in conjunction with Nebraska’s official state celebration, NEBRASKAland DAYS and the PRCA Buffalo Bill Rodeo. The pageant is an important draw for the community and the NEBRASKAland DAYS celebration. The Advisory Committee awarded the pageant $975 which will allow them to purchase a Nebraska 2X2 network statewide classified through the Nebraska Press Association. The Advisory Committee also authorized the Visitors Bureau to create and manage a targeted social media campaign in the amount of $375 to promote the pageant.
Miss Rodeo Nebraska is one of the top ambassadors of the state of Nebraska, the sport of rodeo and the community of North Platte. She logs countless road miles attending events in-state, and many, many airline miles traveling to rodeos across America. Everywhere she goes, she promotes NEBRASKAland DAYS and the PRCA Buffalo Bill Rodeo. The Advisory Committee awarded Miss Rodeo Nebraska 2019 Eva Oliver $2,000 to produce autograph books and Nebraska’s page in the Miss Rodeo America pageant book.
Studies have shown that the number one activity of visitors is shopping. Great hotels and exciting attractions may draw them to a destination, but when they are in town, they want to shop. The Visitors Bureau’s partnership with the North Platte Chamber and Development Corporation in the retail recruitment contract with the Buxton Company is aimed at filling the gap left in the retail sector of North Platte left by some recent high-profile closures. The Advisory Committee renewed the commitment with a $5,000 investment in the second year of the Buxton contract.
The next round of Promotional, Incentive and Sports Incentive funding is now open, with an April 1 deadline for events occurring in July, August and September. Anyone interested in submitting a grant application is encouraged to contact the Visitors Bureau at 308-532-4729 and discuss their project with a staff member.
Grant funds, marketing and operating expenses for the North Platte / Lincoln County Visitors Bureau are funded solely through the lodging taxes that are collected and remitted for overnight stays by lodging properties in Lincoln County. It is thanks to the efforts of the lodging property partners located within the county that funds are available to attract more visitors, which have a significant impact on the economic well-being of our Lincoln County communities.
