Authorities in Cheyenne County responding to a vehicle fire found a lot more than they were expected Tuesday night.
Crews were working on extinguish a fire on a trailer hauling three cars that caught ablaze near the Potter interchange. A Nebraska State Trooper was dispatched because there was a large amount of marijuana falling out of the trunk of one of the cars that caught on fire.
The items were in large, double heat sealed plastic bags with marijuana in it. The bags were put on a tarp and it took 5 volunteer firemen to lift and put into the vehicle belonging to a WING Drug Task Force Officer. A preliminary estimate of the weight of the drugs was between 150 and 200 pounds.
The occupants of the vehicle hauling the car were 37-year-old Rati Tsakadze and 20-year-old Toma Beridze. Beridze told the trooper that the trucking company belonged to his father, and the cars were being transported from California to Pennsylvania.
Both were arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Controlled Substance More than One Pound.
