Holdrege, Neb. — A candidate for Mayor of Holdrege was taken into custody on a federal warrant for a firearms violation. Holdrege Police Department confirms it was contacted on Tuesday by the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms) naming Joseph Melton in the warrant.
A Holdrege Police Officer made contact with Melton Tuesday afternoon and confirmed there was a federal warrant for possessing an unregistered firearm.
Melton was taken into custody without any incident and was being housed in the Phelps County Justice Center jail pending transport. No bond has been set.
