A woman who reported to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office that she was a victim of domestic violence spurred an investigation that has landed her 43 year old live-in boyfriend, Michael Jara and his son in jail. The woman says the elder Jara assaulted her causing debilitating injuries. The woman says he also assaulted her two-year old daughter.
The alleged victim says Jara began threatening to blow up her house with explosives. She says Jara also threatened to shoot her and her children.
A team of Lincoln County Deputies went to the victim’s residence in rural Lincoln County, they contacted Jara and his 20 year old son Michael Jara Jr. The elder Jara was arrested for first degree domestic assault and child abuse.
A search of the home was conducted. Deputies discovered at least four large pipe bombs, a shotgun and suspected methamphetamine. Jara and his son were also arrested for possession of a destructive device.
A Nebraska State Patrol bomb specialist was called in to remove the destructive devices. One of the bombs was too unstable to be transported. The bomb specialist destroyed the device at the residence. Others were removed and taken to a safer area and then destroyed.
Both Jara and his son were transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center and incarcerated. The Sheriff’s Office says additional charges may follow.
