A 33-year-old Lexington man was sentenced Friday in Dawson County District Court to two years of Intensive Supervised Probation on a conviction of Terroristic Threats, a Class III Felony. Michael Perez pleaded no contest to the charge in December 2017. Another charge of Attempted Theft by Extortion was dismissed. He was also ordered to pay restitution of $1,000.
Perez was arrested on July 19, 2017 following an investigation by Lexington Police Department.
Court records say Perez allegedly threatened physical harm to a person unless that person paid him $25,000. The person did pay some cash and offered to make payments if no harm was caused to the person or the person’s family. The case was prosecuted by the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office. District Judge Jim Doyle previously presided over the case but, recused himself last month and assigned the case to District Judge Richard Birch.
