After more than twenty years, Gary Kelley has sold one of the more popular liquor stores in the North Platte Valley.

Kelley announced Friday he has sold the Kelley’s Liquor Cabinet on 27th Street to a local family, Karen Hunter and her two sons Cory Kilpatrick and Justin Kumm.

Kelley says the family expressed interest soon after he announced he was selling the store. Kelley says he will help the new owners make the transition but after that time he will basically be in full retirement. Kelley says he wants to travel with his wife, especially to Ireland to meet relatives he has never met.

Kelley says the new owners will keep his employees. Kilpatrick says they don’t plan to make a lot of changes, noting one of the reasons they found the store interesting was the good location and the loyal customers, who he says will receive the same quality customer service that Kelley provided.

Karen Hunter says they do plan some wine tastings, may expand the business a little and will continue to offer a catering service as Kelley has done.

The new store will be known as simply Kelley’s Liquor, dropping the “Cabinet” from the name.
