Investigation: Speed a factor in fatal Chadron rollover

The Dawes County Sheriff’s office says the investigation into the fatal Wednesday morning rollover on the northwest edge of Chadron indicates the eastbound vehicle was operating at an undetermined high rate of speed when it left Bartlett Road and eventually ended up in a field.

Sheriff Karl Dailey says 21-year-old Megan Campbell, the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Her brother, 32-year-old Donald Nelson, was transported to Chadron Community Hospital, where he later died.

Dailey confirms Chadron Police and Deputies from his office were called to the scene of the single-vehicle accident around 7 a.m even though he believes the accident happened two to three hours earlier.

Dailey says the investigation after leaving the road the vehicle went into the north ditch and then rolled end over end over a fence before coming to its final resting stop in the field. Dailey says both passengers were ejected so it is unlikely they were wearing seat belts.
