Interstate stop nets drug bust

SEWARD – The Seward County Sheriff’s Office recovered nearly $80,000 of narcotics during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 Thursday.

Two rental vehicles traveling eastbound were stopped at the Seward exit. A consent to search one of the vehicles was denied, at which time a deputy deployed his K-9. The dog then indicated a positive odor of narcotics on the rental truck.

During the search, deputies discovered six pounds of hydro marijuana and 402 vials of hashish oil along with a small amount of U.S. currency. Street value of the narcotics is estimated to be approximately $80,000.

The driver of the vehicle, 37-year-old David McDaniel and three other men in the other rental vehicle all from Kansas City, MO were all charged with Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Deliver, Possession of Hashish, Possession of Marijuana over one pound and Conspiracy to Distribute Illegal Narcotics.

McDaniel is involved in a prior federal case for Money Laundering and Transportation of Narcotics.
