A midday crash Sunday on Interstate 80 near Burns involving two semis has claimed the life of a 32-year-old California man.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol was dispatched to milepost 385 around 11:44 a.m. Troopers say an eastbound Freightliner Conventional experienced mechanical issues and pulled into the emergency lane.
Shortly after, a Volvo Conventional struck the rear of the broken down unit, crossed both eastbound lanes and entered the median. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its passenger side.
The driver of the Volvo semi- 32-year-old Anatoliy Yakubovskiy of Rocklin, California- was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the Freightliner has been identified as 69-year-old Dallas, Texas resident Edward Jones Jr. He was transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and hospitalized for his injuries.
The Patrol says driver inattention and equipment failure has been determined as factors to the crash.
This crash resulted in the fourth highway fatality in Wyoming for 2018 compared to three fatalities in 2017, four in 2016, and ten in 2015 during this same time period.
