A hot air balloon came in contact with power lines after landing north of Mitchell on Sunday.
The incident happened near County Roads A and 11. According to the Old West Balloon Fest program, the balloon is Good Morning Sunshine and its pilot is 55-year-old Royce Clapp.
Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman says the balloon hit power lines, but none of the three occupants were injured.
Clapp said his balloon did suffer some minor damage.
The Sherrifs Office, Morrill Fire Department and Roosevelt Public Power were all on scene. Several homes lost power as a result of the incident.
Colleen Johnson, the Balloonmeister for the event released this statement:
“We are aware of a minor incident involving one of the balloons in our sunrise launch this morning. The pilot and two passengers on board did not suffer any injuries in the incident. Our pilots are very experienced and we have teams on hand to make sure conditions are safe for our pilots, crew, passengers, and spectators. Unfortunately, there are times when even a small change in winds can cause minor deviations in a landing or takeoff. We appreciate all the concern, and are thankful for the dozens of safe rides the past two days.”
