Bellevue, Neb. —  Governor Pete Ricketts on Wednesday visited the State of Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Metro South location in Bellevue to highlight the ongoing transformation of services in the metro area, noting the success of the new service center location and the recent launch of an online drive test appointment system.

“Thanks to the new service center, customers are saving an average of over 21 minutes per visit and nearly 40,000 hours over the course of the year at the new location,” said Governor Ricketts. “The creation of a one stop shop means Omaha Metro residents are seeing a 74 percent reduction in time spent waiting during their DMV visits. The online appointment system will build on the great work already being undertaken and bring down wait times even further. As we continue to introduce new improvements, customers will receive an even more effective and more efficient experience.”

The new location in the Bellevue-Papillion area was operational in May 2018, replacing locations at 50th & F Street and Papillion. The Metro South location has served nearly 55,000 since May with wait times significantly lower than customers experienced at the previous locations. The new location is the first of its kind in Nebraska with customers able to complete their entire transaction at one location instead of paying for their license at the County Treasurer’s office.

Online appointment scheduling is available to applicants who have already passed their written test and now wish to schedule a drive test in Douglas, Sarpy, and Lancaster Counties. The range of services will be expanded further in 2019 and will include the ability to pre-populate application forms.

“Searching for ways to continually improve the experience of our customers is ingrained in the culture of the DMV”, said Rhonda Lahm, Nebraska DMV Director. “We are excited to improve the way we do business in the Metro area. The one stop shop model in Bellevue will serve as a template for future locations in north and west Omaha. I encourage customers to take advantage of the online Drive Test appointment system and other online services at dmv.nebraska.gov to ensure the shortest wait time and maximum convenience.”

The new Omaha North location is due to open in April 2019 with an Omaha West location scheduled for 2020.
