Gering youth wins Old West Balloon Festival coloring contest

Gering youth wins Old West Balloon Festival coloring contest

Scotts Bluff County, NE – September 1, 2016. Come touch the sky at the 2016 Old West Balloon Fest; the must attend three-day premier hot air balloon event in Western Nebraska Labor Day Weekend!

The Old West Balloon Fest, a family-fun event, asked kids in the region to participate in the official “Coloring Contest” and use their colors and imagination to capture the images of their local hot air balloon festival. Over 1,000 beautifully colored entries were submitted, and winners were announced today.

“Needless to say, we were blown away by the creativity and passion for Old West Balloon Fest expressed in the contest entries submitted to us”, stated Tricia Strauch, OWBF Coloring Contest Chairman. There is no doubt that the kids in our area are very excited about and this community-wide Festival”, said Strauch.

The coloring contest had three grades categories; 3rd grade, 4th grade and 5th grade. One winner from each category was selected; and one of those winners was named the GRAND PRIZE WINNER. All three winners received an Old West Balloon Fest gift pack full of prizes.

The Grand Prize winner, Mitch Moravec from Northfield Elementary will attend the Old West Balloon Fest Meet & Greet with the pilots on Friday night; and receive a hot air balloon ride in the “Humpty Dumpty” balloon sponsored by Fremont Motors at the sunrise launch on Sunday.

The third grade winner is Holden Lerwick of Banner County and the 4th grade winner is Joslyn Darnell from Mitchell elementary.

“Fremont Motors is proud to be a sponsor of the Old West Balloon Fest and we’re so impressed with the talent and creativity that all the participants showed”, said Phil Brooker, General Manager of Fremont Motors. “We are excited that the Grand Prize winner will get a once in a lifetime hot air balloon experience. Great job to everyone who entered”, stated Brooker.
