Gering woman in critical condition after SUV vs. pedestrian accident

A Gering woman is reported in critical condition following an early Sunday morning vehicle versus pedestrian accident on the eastern edge of Gering.

In a news release, Sheriff Mark Overman said a 2003 Dodge Durango driven by Ethan Allen, 28, of Mitchell was heading southbound on 21st Avenue and struck a pedestrian, Specialee Gonzales, 33 of Gering in the south bound lane of traffic around 2:15 a.m.

Overman says evidence indicates Gonzales was walking along the shoulder and stepped into the lane of traffic as Allen’s vehicle approached.  Valley Ambulance transported Gonzales to Regional West Medical Center, and Overman says no arrests were made and no citations issued.

Officers from the Gering and Scottsbluff Police Departments and Gering Volunteer Fire also responded.
