The Gering Public School District is proud to announce that Junior Brock Parker has earned a perfect score on the ACT .

Gering High School Principal Eldon Hubbard says Brock  is an extremely hard worker and has continually challenged himself to advance through the curriculum at every level.

“Brock is poised to take multiple upper level and college classes during his senior year of high school and has positioned himself to achieve almost any goal for his future,” says Hubbard.  “We are very proud of his efforts and look for big things from him.”

Parker is the second Gering High School student to earn a perfect ACT score in the past four years.

“Gering High School sets an extremely high academic standard for our students,” says Hubbard. “Having two students in the past four years score 36 on their ACT is not only remarkable for a school of our size, it is also a testament to the strong academic programming and instruction available within the Gering Public School System.”

Parker not only excels in the classroom, but he is also involved in many other things at Gering High School.  Brock competes in quiz bowl, is in the Math Club, German Club, 4-H, National Honor Society, Chess Club/Go Fish Club, Chadron State Scholastic Competition, Cornhusker Boys State, and is a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.

The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science, each scored on a scale of 1-36.  A student’s composite score is the average of the four test scores. The ACT is a curriculum-based exam that measures college preparedness.  ACT scores are accepted by all major four-year colleges and universities across the U.S.

Brock is the son of Douglas and Laurie Parker. On average, only around one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT earn the top score nationwide.  In Nebraska, only 22 students graduating in 2018 earned this top score.
