Gage County board OKs permit for 15,000-bird poultry farm

BEATRICE, Neb. – Gage County supervisors have approved a six-barn poultry operation east of Cortland, despite opposition from nearby residents.

The board voted 4-3 Wednesday to approve Roy Mulder’s permit. Each of the barns in his plan can accommodate up to 25,000 chickens being grown for delivery to a chicken processing plant in Tecumseh.

Opponents had raised concerns about odor, bugs and damage to roads because of the extra truck traffic.
