Friends, family and  dignitaries gathered Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington to remember the life of Bill Barrett. Reverend Charles Olsen says Barrett loved to help people and loved charity. Reverend Olsen said Barrett had a sense of vocation and had a calling that led him to public service…

“He said service to others is the best work of life. Aside from public service I know of no profession other than the ministry…thanks Bill…and perhaps medicine…that helps a person get more closely involved in the welfare and well-being of his or her fellow man.”

Reverend Olsen described Barrett as a person who loved people and loved life. Those who attended the memorial service for Bill Barrett included Gov. Pete Ricketts, former Gov. Kay Orr, Federal Judge Richard Kopf  as well as present and former state senators. Barrett served 10 years in the U.S. House and 12 in the Nebraska Legislature.  Flags across Nebraska were ordered to be flown at half-staff on the day of his service.

Federal District Judge Richard Kopf  offered his thoughts about his longtime friend by saying that Barrett placed the rule of law above partisan politics…
