Flood warnings issued after storms in northeast Nebraska

OMAHA, Neb. – Rain-heavy thunderstorms have forced the National Weather Service to issue flood warnings for parts of northeast Nebraska.

More than 6 inches of rain in the past 24 hours has been reported in Stanton County. The county’s emergency manager, Sanford Goshorn, said Thursday that several farmers had reported more than 5 inches of rain.

The weather service says flooding is expected along the Elkhorn River in Cuming and Dodge counties and along several creeks in Dodge County.

The river is expected to reach flood stage late Friday morning at Winslow and then crest in the afternoon at nearly a foot above flood stage.
